The three summer months, June, July and August, are traditionally the busiest months at Copenhagen Airport, and the 2,217,290 passengers, 1,112,078 of whom were departing, made July the airport’s busiest month ever. It was also the first time Copenhagen Airport recorded more than 1.1 million departing passengers in a single month.
“This passenger record such a short time after the financial crisis is very welcome, and the new record strongly underlines our position as the biggest airport in the Nordic Region and a key northern European traffic hub. We recorded growth on all fronts, and the new intercontinental routes to New York JFK, Toronto and Doha respectively as well as the increased number of routes out of Copenhagen offered by low-cost carriers were the key drivers of the increase in passenger numbers, said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales, for Copenhagen Airports.
The number of international passengers rose by 10.1% while the number of transfer passengers rose by 11.7%. Domestic traffic also continued to show strong growth and the number of domestic passengers was 26.3% higher than last year.
The previous passenger record at Copenhagen Airport was set in July 2008 when 2,135,667 passengers used the airport. Copenhagen Airport has been one of the fastest growing major European airports this year. The year-to-date growth rate is 6.7%, and the total passenger number for the first seven months of the year was 12,125,726.
