Gold Coast Airport win Staff Service award

Gold Coast Airport has two new awards to add to the mantle after being named the Best Regional Airport Australia/Pacific and also taking out the Staff Service Excellence Australia/Pacific award at the Skytrax World Airport Awards in Copenhagen, Denmark yesterday.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Paul Donovan said the double award win is a significant achievement for the airport. “In particular, receiving the Staff Excellence award is just reward for our team, who continually strive to deliver the best possible service to our passengers. “We’d also like to thank our airline partners and associated staff for their continued contribution to the success of Gold Coast Airport.”“On behalf of all our staff at Gold Coast Airport, we are truly honoured to win these awards. To be held in such high esteem by our airline passengers is very humbling and we’d like to thank them for their continued support. “The awards are the result of a lot of hard work and commitment from our dedicated team of very talented people.

The World Airport Awards are based on 11.38 million survey questionnaires completed by over 100 different nationalities of airline passengers in 2010/2011, covering more than 240 airports worldwide.

Mr Donovan said the airport has enjoyed considerable passenger growth in recent years. “As the gateway to Australia’s number one tourist destination, we have designed our facilities and services to attract low cost carriers to service the insatiable demand for the Gold Coast region. “To date, our marketing and product delivery for low cost carriers has been well received with our passenger throughput continuing to grow year-on-year. We welcomed 5.4 million passengers last year, maintaining our stake as the sixth busiest airport in Aust

Gold Coast to Perth cheap fares with Jetstar

Gold Coast Airport has welcomed the new direct daily services to Perth that start today with Jetstar. The commencement of this service is a significant milestone for Gold Coast Airport, with the airport now having direct access to each capital city within Australia (outside Queensland).

Jetstar all day, every day cheap tickets between Perth and the Gold Coast start from just *$209 one way JetSaver Light fares with bookings available online at Jetstar.com.
“The commencement of this service is great news for the Gold Coast, with the commitment from Jetstar set to boost tourism numbers to the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region. “It will also provide a service to our local community needing to travel to the West Coast for leisure or business.

“Gold Coast Airport have worked hard as a team to become a significant aviation hub in Queensland, and with the realisation that we will now have flights operating to each capital city within Australia, its extremely gratifying to see that strategy pay off. “It’s exciting to open up the West Australian market directly for the people of the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales. “Commencing a daily service to Perth clearly outlines the Jetstar’s commitment to our region and we will work collaboratively with the airline and our tourism industry partners to ensure the success of this service,” Mr Donovan said.

Tiger Airways Move to Terminal 1 at OOL

Gold Coast Airport has completed negotiations with airport operators and from 10 June 2011 all regular passenger transport (RPT) airline services will operate from the purpose-built common user main terminal, Terminal 1.

“Moving Tiger Airways to Terminal 1 means the common user check in counters, security screening area and baggage screening processes, the core of a low cost carrier terminal operation, are maximised. This will create greater efficiencies at the airport and for Tiger Airways.

Gold Coast Airport’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Paul Donovan, said this makes full use of Terminal 1 and will provide passengers with a more pleasant flying experience. “Last year we opened our $100 million purpose built low cost carrier, common user terminal. Currently all domestic and international airline services that operate out of Gold Coast Airport, with the exception of Tiger Airways, use this terminal.

“Our internal research shows passengers using Terminal 1 have a nicer experience, given the range of retail, food and beverage outlets, more seating, as well as other facilities that enhance their travel journey. “Tiger Airways operating from Terminal 1 will also reduce passenger confusion as passengers will arrive and depart from the same terminal, regardless of which airline they are travelling with,” Mr Donovan said.

JAL Tokyo Gold Coast Route Jetstar Codeshare

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Jetstar Airways (Jetstar) have reached an agreement to expand their codeshare partnership to include flights operated by Jetstar on routes linking Japan's 2 major cities - Tokyo (Narita) and Osaka (Kansai), with Gold Coast in Queensland Australia, from November 25, 2010.

CX New Business Class Seat on B777/a330

Cathay Pacific Airways today unveiled its latest innovations in product and service at a glittering event in Hong Kong attended by more than 3,000 people.

The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of Cathay Pacific’s new Business Class seat – a passenger-led design that aims to refine comfort, versatility and function. Every aspect of the new product has been thoughtfully designed around the passenger’s needs, providing a space in which to sleep, dine, work, read, watch TV or simply relax.

The new seat offers both privacy and openness, with a wing-back chair that cocoons passengers in their own private area and has been carefully designed to maximise living space. The seats, which are angled to give passengers a perfect view through the windows and are ideal for those travelling with a companion, provide everything passengers need to control either their widescreen inflight entertainment system or the infinitely adjustable seat. The seat quickly converts into a bed that is one of the longest and widest provided on any commercial airline.

Inside the cabin, the new Business Class will feature artwork – all original designs - by Hong Kong artist Maria Lobo. Guests at the gala party were given a preview of Ms Lobo’s creative designs.

Seat controls Everything passengers need to control their environment is close at hand. The Entertainment Handset operates a widescreen on-demand entertainment system. A premium-car-style Seat Controller enables passengers to adjust their seat at the touch of a button - from upright, through the relax position and into a fully flat bed. The Bed The bed is one of the longest and widest provided on any commercial airline, allowing passengers to sleep in any position. The foams have been ergonomically designed to optimise comfort in the sitting position and also to promote deep sleep.

Cathay Pacific is also investing HK$5.5 billion in its own state-of-the-art cargo terminal at Hong Kong International Airport that will open in early 2013.

Gimpo to Macau on budget airlines

Jin Air, Korean Air’s budget airlines, has submitted an application to operate passenger flights from Seoul to Macau as early as next month, the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau (AACM) has told Macau Daily Times.
“Jin Air has submitted their application to us to fly five weekly passenger flights from Seoul starting the end of November 2010,” the AACM spokesperson said. However, the precise date cannot yet be confirmed because local authorities are still waiting for some documents. “We are pending for their submission of some missing technical documents,” she added.
Earlier this year, Jin Air’s CEO, Kim Jae-kun, said the company had plans to fly to Macau. The route, he added, would link the MSAR to Gimpo, the second airport of the Korean capital.
Currently, Air Macau flies seven times a week to the main Incheon airport, also in Seoul.
Since 2008, Jin Air has been in contact with the AACM seeking information about operations of charter flights to the SAR. The company even sent their application in June this year for charter services between Seoul and Macau for a total of eight flights from July 30 to August 23.

According to AACM’s spokesperson, Air Macau has also submitted an application to fly three weekly passenger flights to Hefei, in Anhui province, and four weekly passenger flights to Ningbo, in Zhejiang province. The flag carrier of Macau plans to fly in December, but the Civil Aviation Authority “is also pending for their submission of some missing technical documents” to allow the new routes.
Yesterday, local media quoted businessman Ngan In Leng, the president of the bankrupt airline Viva Macau, saying he had plans to start a new airline, despite his disappointment at the Civil Aviation Authority. Ngan even said he was currently waiting for the arrival of new planes, The Macau Post Daily reported.
However, AACM knows nothing about a new carrier. “Up till the present moment, we have not received any application or been contacted by any investors who are interested in setting up an airline in Macau,” the spokesperson told MDT.
This year, only one new company began flying to Macau, according to the data provided by AACM. In July, Mandala Airlines started operating three weekly passenger flights from Jakarta.
Aside from Mandala, in September, Air Macau started operating two weekly all-cargo flights respectively to Shanghai, Singapore and Bangkok.
